WOOLWORTHS CRICKET Blast - (Ages 5-9)
This program is for the younger players to learn skills and rules of the game in a fun and encouraging environment. There are 2 levels:
Junior Blasters is an introductory level (previously known as Milo) for the younger children, generally between ages 5-7. Junior Blasters will be held from 9am to 10am every Saturday morning. Junior Blasters will be lead by a senior coach and be streamed for ability to ensure everyone is playing with similar ability children. Please do note that Parents are required to stay with their children and be involved in the skills and games at all times.
The Master Blasters is the next level, for those older children, generally between 7-9 years old. To enjoy the game at this level, there is a minimum requirement to bowl with a straight arm. Inter-club games are held on Friday nights at Canterbury Sports Ground from 5.30pm to 7pm. Training is held also at CSG from 9am to 10.30m on Saturday mornings. Parents are strongly encouraged to stay with their children and to help the coaches with their children’s development.
Once you register, our Blasters Coordinator will be in contact you. If you have any further specific questions on this, please direct them to our Master Blasters Coordinator which found on the contacts tab.
Junior Program (Ages 8-16) - Boys
This program is designed for children between the ages of 8-16 (generally starting in grade 2 or 3). We encourage all skill levels and welcome those considering cricket first time. The teams are formed in Age Groups.
Age groups are set based on the participants’ age as at 31st of August. So, if your child is 9 or under, as at the 31st of August, they should register for an U10 Age Group. If they are 10, as at the 31st of August, they need to register for U12 age group. Children generally play in an age group for 2 seasons.
Each age group has a Coordinator and they will put the teams together once all the registrations are completed. Please refer to the Juniors / Junior Cricket at Canterbury tab on our website for club philosophy, selection process and other pertinent information for each age group.
For planning purposes, we encourage the earliest registrations, especially for the boys’ competition. We prefer to get most registrations completed by the end of August so we can ensure we have all the facilities and resources required for the number of teams.
Registrations can still be accepted into September, subject to team numbers, but it will be at full price for the respective competitions. Please note that this is the period where we may need to stop accepting registrations at any time, based on team numbers and available resources. So please don’t wait for this period, as you may miss out.
At this stage, it is anticipated that games will start at the beginning of term 4 and run through to mid Feb. Based on preliminary information, we expect the age groups to be played across the following days:
• U10 - play Sunday AM, possibly a Saturday – subject to demand only.
• U12 - play Sat AM,
• U14 - play Fri night,
• U16 - play Fri nights.
Girls program (Ages 8-16)
We cater for older primary school girls through to high school girls and no prior cricket experience is needed! Teams will be based on age, experience, skills and friendships. Games are played on Wednesday evenings.
